@Rangasyd, the problem is you deleted the code I wrote and used it to create another page without going through the draft. So, I, the creator of the content and the one who created the draft, was rejected, and now the page I translated manually from German during my vacation appears to be yours. @TCMemoire: I hear you and understand your copyvio concerns. In fact, that article was part of project to add to Wikipedia every property listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register that was completed during 2018 and 2019. There is discussion on the matter here and here, with detailed discussion on copyvio and attribution occurring in November 2019, in the second link above. There was no real consensus on the way forward, other than that the use of material from the NSW Heritage Database was considered free and unlicensed (at the time of use). I chose not to comment in that second discussion, given that I was the so called "cause" of the problem, when in fact, I was just one member of the team that assisted with the project - working on central Sydney articles, mostly. And articles by other editors who contributed to the project adopted that same rationale and were not identified. Anyway, I've moved on. Happy to review the article, when and if I have a moment. 2024 and 2025 NPP Awards

JTtheOG was selected as the NPP reviewer of the year for both 2024 and 2025, for reviewing the most articles amongst all reviewers.

Hey man im josh and MPGuy2824 won the Redirect Ninja Master Award for 2024 and 2025 respectively, for reviewing the most redirects.

Before adding a category to an eponymous category, as you did at Category:National Trust of Australia (Victoria), please make sure that the category is appropriate under Wikipedia's categorization guidelines and is consistent with WP:EPONYMOUS.

An eponymous category is a category named after a subject that contains pages associated with that subject. For example, an eponymous category about a person, place, organization, or work may contain articles about related people, events, works, history, or other topics connected with that subject, not just the main article itself.

Because of that, adding a category to an eponymous category means that the added category should make sense for the contents of the eponymous category as a whole, not just for the subject it is named after. In general, the added category should apply to all or nearly all of the pages in the eponymous category.

For example, a category such as establishments in YEAR may apply to the subject itself, but usually will not apply to every page in the eponymous category, so it is usually not appropriate to add it there. Category:Church buildings with domes in Ukraine

Hello. I noticed that you've created a number of "church buildings with domes" categories for multiple countries. In Ukraine in particular, many (I believe the vast majority of) churches have at least one dome. Therefore, with its current scope, this category has the potential to turn superfluous and rather large (hundreds of pages) if all churches with domes are included. I've thought about it and I believe it would be more useful to divide the pages into smaller subcategories that classify the churches by number of domes (which is a much more defining characteristic than the mere presence of the domes). I could not find any similar categories to compare this situation to, however, and it may be difficult in some instances to distinguish domes from cupolas. Would you support implementing this? @Shwabb1: Thanks. There were more than 500 articles categorised as "churches with domes", which made the category way too big to be useful. Given that there are categories for mosques with domes and mosques with minarets and that these were sub-categorised by countries, it made sense to do the same with churches. Whilst I acknowledge that most churches in some Eastern European / West Asian countries are all likely to have domes, that is certainly not the case globally, where they are the exception, rather than the norm. I'm not a fan of enumerating the number of domes as a category. I could not see any precedence for this. As to distinguishing domes from cupolas, perhaps that's another step at another time. But, certainly not in my remit at present. And then, do we do the same with church steeples, church bells, etc.? I'm more interested in getting {{Infobox church}} used consistently, instead of {{Infobox religious building}}, when completing articles on Christian churches. BTW, I've been working on articles for mosques, synagogues, churches, convents, monasteries, temples, and other religious buildings for years, now.... Rangasyd (talk) 14:40, 7 July 2026 (UTC)

OK, I only suggested this as it is the only way to reasonably subdivide this category that I can think of. Certainly it would not make sense for countries where churches with domes are not common, so I only suggested this for the Ukrainian category at least. Hey, before I get to this, I noticed that you usually add keys when adding pages to the category. I want to follow the established structure, but I'm not sure if I understand the pattern. The key is often the city name but there are multiple exceptions: Uzhhorod Orthodox Cathedral uses "Orthodox Cathedral" and Chersonesus Cathedral uses "Vladimir Cathedral in Chersonese, The". @Shwabb1: Hi there. Thanks for reaching out. I've had a look at both those articles and made some substantive changes that I think better reflect the accuracy of each article. However, I'm not an expert on Eastern Orthodox churches. If you have access to sources for the Chersonesus Cathedral, please add them as it is currently unreferenced; and the Uzhhorod Orthodox Cathedral would benefit from additional sources, especially, considering the only current source link is dead and it's in Ukrainian.

Now, to answer your question, there are three general principles for sorting categories for articles, generally in this order of (my personal) preferences, but not always:

1. Articles will sort according to their article name. For example, The Wind in the Willows will sort in all categories under "The". So, it's important to get the name right on what is the most common usage for the article; or, in some cases, the full/official name. Both the articles that you referred to me are their common names. In my mind, it's logical that they're left that way. Yet, it's always good, in the lead, to add their official name; and also in the correct field in the infobox.
2. However, that's not always desirable that the category be sorted according to the article name. Hence, a {{DEFAULTSORT}} template can be added. This forces all categories in the article to be sorted according to this one rule as editors detail in DEFAULTSORT. Looking again at The Wind in the Willows, the sorting code entered is "DEFAULTSORT:Wind in the Willows, The". As a result, all categories will sort as starting with "Wind" and not "The". Regarding churches, in some cases we may want to use DEFAULTSORT to categorise an article title that is called "St [insert saint name]'s Church, [location]" to categorise as either "Saint [insert saint name]'s Church, [location]" or "[insert saint name], Saint church, [location]".
3. For some articles, you don't always want every category to be sorted accordingly to either the article title or the DEFAULTSORT code. So, there is the capacity to add a code for individual categories. When we look at churches, railway stations, police stations, post offices, courthouses, government offices, and many other structures, etc., when it comes to the place that they're located in, users tend to apply a different sorting rule for just that category. So, using the Uzhhorod Orthodox Cathedral as an example, when it comes to the Category:Uzhhorod, its not that logical to sort as "Uzhhorod Orthodox Cathedral", its more logical in that category only to sort as "Orthodox Cathedral"; yet for all other categories to sort as "Uzhhorod Orthodox Cathedral". A really good example of this, regarding churches, relates to their dedication. So, in the case of Chersonesus Cathedral, I added Category:Vladimir the Great, and for the Chersonesus article, it sorted in the category under "Chersonesus" (the article title). However, for the articles on Saint Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary, Saint Volodymyr Hill, and St Volodymyr's Cathedral – that I've not edited – they're all sorted under either "Saint" or "St." For the cathedral article, the logical sort category should be "Kyiv". Do you want to fix that? Another example is Category:Churches dedicated to St Petroc; they're all sorted correctly except St Petroc's Church, Egloshayle, which is sorted under "St". It should be sorted under "Egloshayle", only for that category. Again, do you want to fix that… as practice :-)

New pages patrol September 2026 Backlog drive

September 2026 Backlog Drive | New pages patrol
On 1 September 2026, a one-month backlog drive for new pages patrol will begin at a particularly important time for NPP. The backlog has now passed 30,000 unreviewed articles, a level that has been described in current NPP discussions as exceptionally high and potentially difficult to overcome through normal reviewing alone. Backlog drives are one of the few measures that have historically produced a noticeable reduction in the backlog, so the participation of as many active patrollers as possible will matter this month. If you can review during September, please make articles your priority. Every article that is reviewed is a meaningful reduction in the backlog. With the queue at its current size, even a relatively small increase in the number of articles each patroller reviews can add up to a substantial difference over the course of the month. This is a hybrid drive, so redirect reviewing is still included. Redirects can be a useful way for newer patrollers to get comfortable with NPP and can help people build up to reviewing articles. However, the main goal of this drive is to tackle the article backlog, and experienced patrollers are particularly encouraged to spend as much of their available reviewing time on articles as they can. Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Each article review will earn 1 point, while each redirect review will earn 0.2 points. Streak awards will be given out based on consistently hitting point thresholds for each week of the drive.
