Hi! I just edited my own page, and it turned out not as expected. Now I want to try to correct it, and I can't find my way back! So, two questions: 1) How can I edit my own page again (there was a direct link when I first went to the page, now not apparent to me), and, 2) I pasted a text containing separate lines, with a different composition by me on each line. @AF.Jenks welcome to Wikipedia! Alden Jenks is an encyclopedic entry. Getting reverted can be frustrating. That said, the article does not formally belong to you, but rather to public scholarship that documents the subject. You also happen to be the same person, which means there is a paid wp:conflict of interest that must be declared and you should refrain from directly editing the article.

You can make requests suggestions on the talk page at Talk:Alden Jenks. As for newlines, this can be an issue depending on your text editor. To make edit requests you can use Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard/COI which alerts other editors that you are making edit requests in compliance with conflict of interest policies. Lonely no more?

Hi, Shushugah. Thanks for your response to the WP:MNBSURVEY. I can sympathize with a lot of what you said, especially this:

I enjoy the mentor interface, but it does feel lonely in terms of not interacting with other mentors.

I felt that exactly, and is the number one reason I created the board, which I hope will increase the sense of shared commitment to a valuable goal, and reduce the sense of working alone. If there are other ways that you can think of to further these aims, by all means contribute them at the board; I'd love to hear your thoughts about it. The 2026 Developing Countries WikiContest has been running for a month now, so let's check in with the competition so far!

As of the time of writing, our top contestants are:

1. Vanderwaalforces (submissions) ahead of the pack with 715 points, with two FAs and many GAs on the monarchs of the Kingdom of Benin;
2. Simongraham (submissions) with 291 points, mostly with GAs on jumping spiders, alongside various GAN and FAC reviews;
3. Jaguarnik (submissions) with 240 points, mostly from an FA on the 1945 film Ivan the Terrible;

Topic for organized labour editathon

Hi Shushugah. I'm not sure what exactly to call it, but there should probably be an article somewhere about how it's industry standard in the United States and Canada to not pay flight attendants until the plane is in the air. It was a massive factor in the 2025 Air Canada flight attendants strike and I know that WestJet flight attendants are trying to do something about it, too. Thoughts? Broadly I would tackle this as part of working time, as this is also true for service-workers during security checks, uber drivers during wait times and many other jobs with varying legislation country to country. We can make hyper specific redirects to specific sections/occupations. There’s also distinctions between “stand-by” or on-call when cabin-crew or programmers must be ready to start work on short notice. The Air Canada article uses the term groundwork. It's not just being on standby, there's actual work involved that's not being paid for. It's a huge issue in the industry so I think it could probably be its own article, in addition to a brief section on an overview article. is one possible source. Account creation experiments

Several experiments to increase successful account creation have delivered significant results.

• An updated message shown to logged-out mobile users who try to edit produced a 27% relative increase in account creation and is being scaled to all wikis. (T424595)
• A new account menu button in the mobile web header, A/B tested across five Wikipedias with nearly 8 million participants, made logged-out mobile users 25% more likely to create an account, with no significant difference in constructive editing behavior. (T428220)
• A simpler post-edit dialog for temporary account holders increased permanent account creation by 87% (relative), converting more temp editors into registered ones. (T416418)

  

• We also redesigned the account creation form itself (T409236): adding real-time username validation, a concise summary of the username policy, a "reveal password" option, and a simplified design aligned with Codex guidelines. In an A/B test on English Wikipedia mobile, users who saw the redesigned form created permanent accounts at a rate of 20.4%, compared to 16.4% for the control group (a 24.4% relative increase).

Revise Tone structured task

Revise Tone helps newcomers identify passages that may contain non-encyclopedic language and guides them through revising the tone. In A/B testing on Arabic, English, French, and Portuguese Wikipedias, newcomer task completion rates were 38.7% higher than the default Copyedit task, with no decrease in edit quality. The test ended July 9, and the feature is now available to everyone on these wikis, configurable via Community Configuration. We plan to release Revise Tone to more wikis.

Automated mentor list cleanup

Communities can now automatically mark inactive mentors as away or remove them from mentorship entirely (which automatically reassigns their mentees). Inactivity is based on edits, and talk page responses count, so mentors answering mentee questions remain active. We recommend enabling both options together; administrators can enable them via Special:CommunityConfiguration and review the mentor list at Special:ManageMentors.

Growth features for Wikidata

Growth features are now available at Wikidata, including a simplified Newcomer Homepage, Mentorship, the Impact module, Community Updates and the Help Panel.

The Growth and Moderator Tools teams are developing Home (T419358): a unified, personalized landing page intended to replace the Newcomer Homepage. Rather than remaining a newcomer-only feature, Home will evolve with users as they gain experience, surfacing Suggested Edits, edits to review, and moderation workflows at the right moment.

Allegree Tavern History

 Connections with the First Families of Virginia, before they became famous and after they became famous

For 15 years, I researched my Family History and I am going to tell the story,  I will start from the beginning ! 

Part one, my Dad, Walter Wayne Allegree,was born in Oaktown, Indiana, in 1923, he was adopted , by the Schrader's from East Canton, I think at first they were foster parents . So after researching my real Grandfather William Lester Allegree 1898-1966 ,who I never saw or knew, after my Dad was born in 1923 left his wife and and 5 kids and went on to marry a 16 year old, and have 3 more kids.. Lester had gotten out of WW1, in 1918, because he had came to Akron, from Vincennes, Indiana, to work at Goodyear and had a daughter, and then by 1923 he had 4 more kids , he then left my real Grandma, Avis McClure with those 5 kids.

Giles Allegree and Judith Cox Allegree my 8th Generation Grandparents

Now we are going to go back 341 years to 1685 in Marseille, France where Giles Allegree was born, King Louis, this French country was controlled by Catholics, and the Pope, King Louis decided that any French Protestant (Hugenots) were to have their children taken away from them and put in Catholic homes ! So the Allergrees took Giles and his siblings across France to Holland where he was raised ! Well that answers the question where he owned 2 Bibles in French and Dutch, the one in he gave Thomas Jefferson was in French and Jefferson gave it the Library of Congress in 1815, and the one I just sent off to the Library of Congress !

Giles travels, after growing up in Holland, we find Giles living in England in 1709, studying to be a Doctor, while there on

21 July 1709 he married at age 23, in London, England to Elizabeth (Beare) Marriott, age 27, widow of Thomas Marriott. Elizabeth's brother, Charles Beare, drowned on a voyage from Barbados to Virginia. By his will dated 10 April 1727, probated in London 21 June 1729, he left his whole estate to his sister Elizabeth Allegre, of the parish of St. Martin's in the Fields, London, who was his sole executrix. There is no record of Elizabeth Allegre after 1729, what happened to her is lost to History. Nothing ever found of her Death or did Giles say or leave anything !

Next we find Giles in 1730 age, 45, who was a French Huguenot (Protestant) and one of the founders of Manakintown, living in King William Parish, Virginia located about 20 miles west of Richmond, on the south side of James River. As his second wife, Giles Allegree, age 45 married Judith M. Cox, age 22. They were married 27 June 1730 by James Marye at the home Mr. John Henry Wood, (his Brother in law) the County clerk, in Goochland Co., VA. This was the first marriage recorded in Goochland County. Giles was a physician and in 1740, he obtained the first license to operate a tavern at his house on 190 acres, then in Goochland County. Allegre's Tavern has stood within the boundaries of three counties: Goochland, Albemarle, and Fluvanna. Located on old Three Notched Road and Mechunk Creek, it is one of Fluvanna's oldest remaining houses.

Judith Cox Allegre had a sister Martha Cox Wood she was married to John Henry Wood. Giles Allegree and John Henry Wood 1696-1757 are Brother in Laws John Henry Wood, County Clerk recorded all records. His son Valentine Wood became County Clerk when he died, Valentine Wood married Lucy Henry, Patrick Henry's sister, more to that Giles and Judith were his Aunt and Uncle !

Did Thomas Jefferson know Giles Allegree ? Well, I guess so in 1768, being a Doctor, he paid Giles for treatment of his mother, Jane Jefferson. Giles probably bled her which was common practice back then. Jefferson was 25 years old born in 1743, his Dad, Peter Jefferson had died in 1757, he took over, the running of the Plantation. In 1768, it was still 8 years before he wrote the Declaration of Independence, Giles was by then 83 years old !

Allegrees Tavern History.

After Giles died in 1774, his son Giles 1735-1820 was running the Tavern but In June 1781, The  Marquis de Lafayette with  4,000 Continental Troops, camped against Lord  Cornwallis, at the Tavern, who was trying to catch Thomas Jefferson, and why they renamed the Tavern, Lafayette Hill Tavern, this was a couple of months before Yorktown !    

12 June 1781 Marquis de Lafayette's militia knew of an abandoned back road which many perceived as impassable. By cutting their way through somes sections, his light infantry managed to reach Mechunk Creek, a branch of the Rivanna River in 2 days. Lafayette set up camp at Mechunk Creek,bHeadquarterd at Allegree’s Tavern, and was joined by some 600 Virginia militia under William Campbell. The location of the camp and the added forces suprised Cornwallis, and discouraged his further ventures towards Charlottsville or Staunton. Cornwallis recalled Banastre Tarleton,who had been sent with 180 British Dragoons to capture Thomas Jefferson who was at his home at Monticello.

Now it gets interesting, its all been researched or documented. Lets start with 1739, four families Peter Jefferson, John Henry Wood, Giles Allegree and William Battersby.

Peter Jefferson was believed by his descendants to be perhaps “the 3d or 4th settler” in the region. His new duties were forestalled, however, by the death of his friend William Randolph. The terms of Randolph’s will called for his “dear and loving friend Mr. Peter Jefferson” to move to Tuckahoe until Randolph’s orphaned son came of age. Peter Jefferson and William Randolph were neighbors and close associates .William Randolph was probably his closest personal friend. When William Randolph died in 1745, his will referred to Peter Jefferson as his "dear and loving friend Mr. Peter Jefferson."

His home was on the Tuckahoe in Goochland Co. William Randolph, Peter Jeffersons best friend was Willian Allegrees Godfather !

I already showed earlier that John Henry Wood witnessed and as Clerk of Courts recorded the marriage of Peter Jefferson and Jane Jefferson in 1739 if you read Peter Jefferson was only one of only 3 or 4 families living there in 1739, one was Giles Allegree !                                                      These 4 families were contemporaries, they all knew each other in 1739, that was the Thomas Jeffersons  connection, Thomas Jefferson was born in 1743. 

Allegree Tavern History

  William Allegree 1739-1777, the Godson, of Peter Jefferson's best friend, William Randolph, and Thomas Jefferson were contemporaries, and neighbors, In the Jefferson Papers, who recorded everything, there are entries where he did legal work for William, but the most interesting is that William, gave Spinet ( like a Harpsichord) lessons to  Martha Wayles Skelton, the future wife of Thomas Jefferson, two years before he married her in 1772. Martha Jefferson was apparently talented in music. A Hessian officer who visited Jefferson at Monticello in 1780 noted, "You will find in his house an elegant Harpsichord Piano forte and some Violins. The latter he performs well upon himself, the former his Lady touches very skilfully and who, is in all Respects a very agreable Sensible and Accomplished Lady.

Sophia Allegree and Albert Gallatin

While there in 1789, Albert Gallatin met Sophia Allegre, Williams daughter, born 1766, Giles grandaughter, while staying at her mother's boarding house in Richmond, Virginia, during the mid-1780s. Against her mother's wishes, Sophia married Albert on May 14, 1789. As the newlyweds travelled to their wilderness home at Friendship Hill, Sophia wrote to her mother, "...forgive dear mother, and generously accept again your poor Sophia,...Could you then form a wish to destroy the future peace of your child: and prevent her from being united to the man of her choice? He is perhaps not a very handsome man, but he is possessed of more essential qualities, which I shall not pretend to enumerate,..."

Tragically, Sophia fell ill five months later and died at Friendship Hill, likely from pregnancy complications, leaving Gallatin profoundly grief-stricken. At her request, Albert buried Sophia in an unmarked grave atop a hill overlooking the Monongahela River. He was in mourning for a number of years and seriously considered returning to Geneva. This was 4 years before he met Thomas Jefferson, and went on to became Secretary of Treasury under Jefferson anf James Madison, he later remarried into money, and later had a daughter he named Sophia, but she died an infant. Giles Allegree and John Henry Wood are Brother in Laws married to sisters Judith and Martha Cox John Henry Wood 1696-1757 and Martha Cox Wood 1702-1747 would have 5 children The oldest is Valentine Wood 1724-1781, Giles and Judith Allegree are his Aunt and Uncle In 1764 Valentine marries Lucy Winston Henry 1743-1826, the younger sister of Patrick Henry, this was 11 years before his Famous Speech when he spoke the words "Give me liberty, or give me death!" on March 23, 1775, at St. John's Church in Richmond, Virginia. Valentine and Lucy Henry would have 5 children the youngest being John Henry Wood 1776-1850,who takes ownership of Allegree Tavern in 1843, from William Tisdale Allegree, they were cousins and Brother in Laws after marrying the Bibb sisters and his future descendants owned the Tavern until 1981

Well I finally came to 1842 while tracing the ownership of the Tavern. After passing through several generations of the Allegree family, ownership eventually came to John Henry Wood (1776–1850), a descendant of the Cox family, which was closely connected to the Allegrees. Wood was the nephew of the famous patriot Patrick Henry and had family connections to Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and Dolley Madison, owning it after William Tisdale Allegree, who was the son of Giles Allegee's youngest son Daniel Allegree 1743-1814.

Why the name change from Allegree to Wood ? First of all John Henry Wood and William Tisdale Allegree were second cousins, their Grandmothers were sisters, Judith Cox Allegree and Martha Cox Wood, and then they married sisters Francis Bibb Allegree and Mary Polly Bibb Wood so they were Brother in Laws, thats the connection with buying the Tavern. The Allegrees took there slaves and children and moved to Franklin Missouri to live out there lives.

Now who was this John Henry Wood ? His Father was Valentine Wood his Mother Lucy Henry Wood, Patrick Henrys younger sister.

Deep Researching him, I realized he had big time connections everywhere, and used them repeatedly ! He was Patrick Henry's nephew, he knew Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Dolley Madison, he was related to Albert Gallatin (Sophia), he ruined his mother, and this was the final owner and his descendants owning the Allegree Tavern !

Lucy Henry Wood, identified by Thomas Jefferson in 1795, as living 7 miles southeast of Monticello, with her family, on the south side of the Rivanna River on Buck Island Creek, with her children, Lucy Henry Wood loaned her slaves to Thomas Jefferson to work on Monticello in 1820 and 1821. Jefferson Paid Lucy Wood for their work.

William Wood 1764-1824 her oldest son also worked for Jefferson, in 1805 operating a mill and boats on the Rivanna River with slave labor, and transporting Jefferson's flour to Richmond.

John Henry Wood 1776-1850 Lucy Wood's youngest son boatman, was born in Goochland County, the nephew of Patrick Henry (1736–99) and brother of another of TJ’s correspondent William Wood. He later lived in Albemarle County, where he apparently moved goods by water both on his own and with the aid of enslaved persons. In 1820 Wood owned eleven slaves. Between that year and 1822 he was paid for transporting building materials for the University of Virginia, this boat or ferry was probably on the Rivanna River which ran by Shadwell, through the city of Charlottseville, Virginia

26th Sepr 1821 Sir to Thomas Jefferson Esquire Ex president from John H Wood Agreable to appointment I applyed for your 60 Barrels flour to have been delivered at Shadwell, provided Barrels cou’d be had. From application repeated to day, the Same reason Seems to obtain. I shall be ready to carry for you any day this week and have therefore thought it proper to say thus much on the subject. The water has a little risen since I saw you, of course it wou’d be an opportune time to get it now—very respectfully Jno, H, Wood

Then In 1820, I found two letters Wood had written to James Madison, asking money for his mother, Lucy, when he let Madison know, that his mother was related to James Madisons, wife Dolley.

Dolley Payne Madison was related to the Allegrees by her first cousins being William Payne 1782-1858 who married Maria Calais Allegree 1797-1848, the Great Grandaughter of Giles Allegree

To James Madison from John H. Wood ALBEMARLE Decr. 22nd, 1820. WORTHY SIR I am induced from many considerations to address you in a manner which may [be] a surprise; but it is cheifly at the instance of my mother,1 with whom you have been well acquainted. The influencies to this address it is surperfluous to mention, the contents of this letter can the better tell, but a word to the wise. I will deem it proper to premise, that the small pecuniary aid I am about to ask, would be most willingly afforded by my mother cou’d it be done without the Sale of a negro to which she is extremely averse, & indeed make it a matter of conscience. I wou’d give ample Security for the loan of a few hundred dollars, say from 2 to 500 for six or twelve months. The 2 or 500$ wou’d be prefered inclosed by the Servant, or in one or two months hence at which time a bond with Sec[u]rity for whatever Sum your goodness wou’d name, wou’d be brought over ready filled up with some known character. I might tell you of the great value of money in this county, & how the favor wou’d be appreciated by myself and most excellent parent, & that I shou’d regret exceedingly sacrificing of my negroes who are of the valuable kind (Watermen) but this wou’d be entirely unnecessary. My mother has been repeatedly disappointed in receiving no visit from Mrs. Madison (our relation) whenever she came to the county. She entertains a most sincere attackment [sic] for yourself, & the warmest affection for her who was once so kind to her youngest daughter during her visit to her cousin in 1801 in Washington,2 as also for her repeated kindnesses to Mrs. Stras3 & daughters in your Presidency. She, My Mother, desires her most affectionate regard to Mrs. Madison & high esteem for yourself in which permit me to unite. With due consideration I am Yrs. most respectfully JNO. H. WOOD

To James Madison from John H. Wood, 5 January 1821 ALBEMARLE Jany 5th. 1821. WORTHY SIR, Permit me to thank you for your polite and friendly Answer to my letter.1 My application was certainly predicated on the presupposition that whatever relief you cou’d grant me consistently with engagements & obligations (of which we all are surrounded) wou’d have been done with willingness. On addresses for pecuniary aid I shou’d always be entirely indisposed to afford any, cou’d I suppose the embarrassmt to have originated in extravagance and dissipation. My truant days (thank heaven) are over and gone. It is chiefly the affliction of my unfortunate wife for more than two years that has a little enthrald me for the present, but shou’d I meet tolerable luck this year I expect to be entirely freed from pecuniary wants. When ruminating on the embarrassm’ts of Life, it is not unfrequent that my mind is Struck with one of the finest pieces of Morallity contained in any paper of the Spectator. Father, says a youth, “thy fortune is a very wretched if there be not another World”—true, son! And what is thine if there be another?2 My venerable mother (wou’d that I was worthy to be her son) seems to feel all the respect & veneration due to yr. exalted virtues & talents, & that sincere affection so eminently due to Mrs. Madison, her relation; to whom with yourself, I beg leave to subscribe myself most sincerely JNO. Interesting sidenote Lucy Henry Wood's second daughter Martha Valentine Wood 1769-1825 married Peter Johnston 1763-1831, who were the parents of 10 children, one daughter was Jane Mary Wood Johnston Mitchell 1811-1892. This letter was written in 1841 about their Grandmother about her uncles, William, Henry, and John Henry Wood. Her other brother was Southern Civil War General Joseph E Johnston 1807-1891

Lucy Henry, my grandmother, was the wife of Col: Valentine Wood, who held, for forty years, the office of Clerk of Goochland. He, his father & his grandfather, were each only sons. His parents were both English, & came of a good family. He was a wealthy & influential man. Unfortunately, his sons were not worthy descendants of an honorable pair. They squandered the large estate he left, & brought my grandmother, in her old age, to comparative poverty & neglect. They prevented her, by their unworthy insinuations & their crafty deceit, from coming to live with my parents, who were most anxious to have her in their care. At last, she who had been the centre of attraction in a wide circle, and the possessor of large wealth, was removed by her sons to a miserable old dwelling in the midst of deep woods, far away from friends & society. There the last years of her life were spent in uncomplaining endurance. She had an original, rigorous mind, well stored with knowledge – a cheerful, serene temper & earnest piety. These sustained her in her lone old age. I must not omit, however, to mention one comfort that was left her -- & a truly remarkable one it was. She had a servant, a woman named Sukey, whose faithful & affectionate attentions did much to soothe her years of helpless infirmity. Sukey was not only a most devoted attendant, but quite an interesting companion: being remarkably intelligent for one of her color, & having always lived in the family. She stayed beside her beloved mistress day & night, with a tender fidelity that was never worn out. So did her niece towards my mother.

Allegree Tavern History Final Story So after John Henry Wood owned the Tavern from 1842, it remained to his descendants for the next 140 years. His son William Wood kept running Lafeyette Hill Tavern as a Tavern, because he renewed the liscense to run a Tavern from 1843-1853. The Tavern also serving as a post office from 1849-1866 the final owner was a man named Edwin Legg, 6th Generation descendant of John Henry Wood.

In 1982 Legg sold the Tavern to John and Alexandra Graham who was actually Alexandra Ripley (1934 – 2004) who was an American writer best known as the author of Scarlett (1991), written as a sequel to Gone with the Wind. She would write the novel while living at the Tavern. She was chosen in the early 1990s by the estate of Margaret Mitchell to write the sequel to "Gone with the Wind."

In 2002 The Allegree Tavern was sold to the Present Owner for $1,500,000

Allegree Tavern or Lafayette Hill Tavern

History resonates throughout Albemarle in the persistent, ubiquitous red brick, boxwoods, and ivy. Little Monticellos dot the county, ensuring preservation of Jefferson's architectural legacy.

But Virginia's history began before Jefferson staked his claim. Lafayette Hill Tavern is one venerable pre-Revolutionary War building located just off 250 East across the Fluvanna County line (the house was in Albemarle County before 1777).

A visitor’s initial sense of the compound is one of completeness: people lived, worked, and died here. The first thing you see is the graveyard, a native-stone-enclosed square beneath a stately oak. Over a small knoll, several original outbuildings and a smokehouse remain, as well as a palatial barn, a swimming pool, and, of course, the Tavern, which forms the center section of the main house.

In 1740, a license to operate a tavern on this site was recorded in Goochland County; 1866 records show the structure was being used then as a post office. A little later it became a residence; over the years elements were added and removed. Today, the tavern part of the house has been restored and outfitted with museum-like simplicity, and the story-and-a-half structure still contains such relics as the original doors (which at less than six feet high could do some serious damage to today’s protein-fed populace).

One of the tavern's claims to fame was the event in 1781 which gave it its name– the Marquis de Lafayette and his army spent the night, gathering information and dispatching news of British troop movements to the Revolutionary army.

The upstairs rooms– originally the tavern’s lodging chambers– are small by today's standards but functional nonetheless. The stairway to them, with a door at either end, encouraged no flow, only a sense of privacy and quiet, especially with rowdy tavern activities in full swing downstairs. The doors embody a real sense of history, though, with a design etched in nails. Hand-tooled nails were costly and used many times over, but in doors they were pounded in and bent over to keep them from popping out with the continual opening and closing. Those nails could not be used again, hence the expression "dead as a doornail."

The modern house, which encircles the tavern, stretches out in every direction. The center of activity seems to be a sunroom that looks onto a southern-style veranda complete with climbing roses, wisteria, and a view of fields of peonies. The interior layout has a feeling of room-to-room expansion with little thought for the big picture.

One extension is a complete apartment, renovated to be wheelchair accessible. In fact, all the renovations have created a home for people to age in, with an elevator connecting all the floors including the basement. Even the dining room, almost in the center of the house (with no exterior windows) has a hidden dishwasher next to the table so cleaning up after a meal involves no more than turning around.

The unruliness of the layout gives the house much of its rambling southern charm. Brick paths connecting separate buildings have been enclosed and now serve as hallways. Outfitted with radiant heat, they keep feet warm on the way to the kitchen, a beautiful, light-filled addition with marble and wood countertops. The walkway to the parking area has the same design to melt snow and ice.

Adding to the charm is the current owner’s love of history. Alexandra Ripley penned her wildly best- selling Gone with the Wind sequel, Scarlett, behind these doors, presumably with her toes snug and toasty upon the same bricks over which the Marquis hurried with a crucial message for General Washington.

Creating a page on a strike for union formation

There was a protest for union formation in a Samsung factory in India. I want to create a page on the event. How do I know if someone is in the same process? The below link from BBC covers the protest.
