Sir Robert Black.jpg
Why did this bot remove this image from the Colony of Singapore? I copied it from the Robert Black biography article but the bot did not remove it from there. What is going on? Tfdavisatsnetnet (talk) 16:06, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) Hi Tfdavisatsnetnet. I'm not JJMC89, but the reason the bot removed the file is essentially the same as what's posted above in #Erroneous manual revert by bot. Non-free content use isn't automatic, and each use requires a separate, specific non-free use rationale be added to the file's page. The bot has been tasked with looking for files that violate non-free content use criterion #10c and then remove them per WP:NFCCE. That's pretty much why the bot removed File:Sir Robert Black.jpg from Colony of Singapore but didn't removed the file from Robin Black (colonial administrator). The other issue (which is something the bot is unable to assess) has to do with non-free content use criterion #1 and criterion #3. A non-free use needs to satisfy all ten non-free content use criteria, not WP:JUSTONE; so, even if you were to provide a rationale for the file's use in "Colony of Singapore", it would still have issues. Wikipedia's non-free content use policy is quite restrictive and tells us to try to keep non-free use as minimal as possible by using free alternatives (including text and Wikilinks) whenever possible. For this reason, the use of non-free images of people is limited to the main infobox or top of stand-alone articles written about them, and not allowed in other articles or other ways where the person might be mentioned in a list or prose format per WP:NFLISTS and item 6 of WP:NFC#UUI. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:05, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
Automatic non-free reduce loops
I've encountered many a user who simply revert DatBot's resize without reading the instructions in {{Non-free reduce}} for adding {{Non-free no reduce}}. This leads to loops like in Special:PageHistory/File:MCretu Chinesische.jpg, Special:PageHistory/File:The World of Harry Potter 4 Pack.jpg, etc. Could JJMC89 bot check if the user reverted an automated resize and if so either skip, report the file somewhere, or add {{Non-free manual reduce}} which a human would hopefully notice if there were any issues? Category:Invalid SVGs
Hello. Can you get the bot to run through the category again? It has been a few days since I've fixed some of the files and the bot didn't re-check it against the tool. Thanks in advance. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 12:40, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
