Proposed deletion of Yousef Al-Nehmi

Unsourced BLP. I deprodded this, tried to find sources, and gave up, so here we are again.

Structure of swimming national record pages

Hi all, I would like to seek consensus on how the tables on the swimming national records pages should be formatted (e.g. in List of Gabonese records in swimming).

Currently the tables use Template:Swimmingrecordlisttop, Template:Swimmingrecords, and Template:End. However that has the following disadvantages:

• They are not editable in the visual editor, which I believe is especially important for articles like this where most the edits come from temporary or new accounts fixing updating the records
• They are more verbose (see this diff, where changing the tables to the current standard format added 11,000 bytes to one of these page)
• Captions don't work (see this report of this issue). It doesn't look like anything is going to be done to fix this. This means there is no obvious spot to put a citation to the World Aquatics pages which actually contain the records.
• Other accessibility features don't work, for example as far as I'm aware it's impossible to make these tables MOS:DTAB compliant.
• The formatting gets ugly in cases where records are tied. E.g. at List of Venezuelan records in swimming, where the men's 50 m record is tied between two performances, the event name is repeated twice rather than having a merged cell which is standard in results tables. A column with no title is then used for an "=" sign to denote the records are tied.

As far as I can tell, using the current formatting has no advantages other than being the current status quo. I suggest we move these tables to use standard formatting, which will fix all the issues above. IAWW (talk) 12:34, 30 January 2026 (UTC)

Hi @Haddad Maia fan, I finally got a chance to take a look at it. Thanks for being so patient. I hate to say it, but I don't see this passing at Articles for Creation and becoming an actual article, because it doesn't cite enough sources to meet the general notability guidelines. Swimming at YYYY Olympics templates moved to "Aquatics at YYYY Olympics"

Is there consensus for the recent changes and page moves by FlocculentAltaria to expand and move swimming sidebar templates in Category:Swimming at the Summer Olympics sidebar templates? For example, {{Aquatics at the 2020 Summer Olympics}} was created when {{Swimming at the 2020 Summer Olympics}} already existed, and {{SwimmingAt2012SummerOlympics}} was expanded and moved to {{AquaticsAt2012SummerOlympics}}.

There is no article for "Aquatics at the 2024 Summer Olympics", which is newly linked to as the main topic for the {{Aquatics at the 2024 Summer Olympics}} sidebar. This omission violates WP:SIDEBAR, item 4.

At this time, the 2012 through 2024 templates are a big mess, but before I undid everything, I wanted to see if this was maybe part of a project that had consensus but was being poorly or incompletely implemented. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:50, 5 July 2026 (UTC)

I'll make a few points:

• This Wikiproject is quite dead (I think I'm the only active editor wanting to work on swimming articles in a coordinated manner). The discussion would be better raised at WikiProject Olympics, which has a more active community and probably also more relevant.
• I agree with your reasoning @Jonesey95 that we should seek consensus one way or another before reverting to avoid wasted effort.
• My opinion is that yes, these should be split up as they are at the world championships articles, however instead of them being under "Aquatics", which isn't a category used in any sourcing as far as I'm aware for Olympics articles, I think Swimming, Marathon Swimming, Diving, and Artistic Swimming should be separated to use their own templates and have their own overview articles; this is the way the events are typically treated in the sources, and certainly the way they are treated by the International Olympic Committee themselves.
• A similar discussion has been had before, here, where @JoshMartini007 and Sportsfan didn't support breaking up Marathon Swimming and Swimming. Hence I think it's unlikely consensus will be found for these changes.

There is consensus here. Now, how to revert the changes to the swimming pages listed at Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:AquaticsAt2004SummerOlympics, Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:AquaticsAt2008SummerOlympics, and Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Aquatics_at_the_2016_Summer_Olympics?

Marathon swimming redux

This 2025 discussion concluded that marathon swimming events at the Olympics should not have individual pages. Has consensus changed? Disruptive editors FlocculentAltaria and Legamerprech are creating such pages and turning redirects into pages. See Category:Marathon swimming at the 2012 Summer Olympics and similar categories. Hello. Firstly, you have used the present tense when mentioning me making marathon swimming pages when I have not so much as edited a swimming-related page in over two weeks. From what I have seen you seem to not be aware of swimming and marathon swimming being separate disciplines as much as artistic swimming, diving and water polo are (you wrote, quote, marathon swimming, which is swimming). This can be seen in many places, such as the offical World Aquatics website. Either all of the disciplines should be separate, or all should be merged. Your reverts are not based in the reality of how the relevant organisations categorise these events. For example, you have messily merged marathon swimming information back into the Swimming at the 2008 Summer Olympics article with no regard to accuracy e.g. having an incorrect number of total competitors and including marathon swimming medals in the swimming medal table. This has no basis how they are treated by the IOC (see the medal events by sport/discipline on their website here and here) and this even changes some of the countries' rankings. Correct me if I am wrong but you seem to be enforcing your will on this matter without sufficient knowledge on the actual subject, leading to you lowering the quality of these Wikipedia articles by adding misleading and untrue information. I am open for further discussion on this subject in order to ensure the articles are the best they can be, as I believe there haven't been any good reasons provided against this yet and I hope consensus can be reached. It was more the notion that I was still presently doing it that was incorrect. I am awaiting your response to anything I have mentioned after the first two sentences.
