Reservation Hatao Andolan (now know as "RHA Reservation Reform Movement") is a social and political initiative in India that advocates for the reform in caste-based reservation, Their core demand is to make Reservation poverty-based, reservation systems in public employment and higher education institutions. It is also sometimes called as Reservation Reform Movement.[1]

Formation
The Reservation Reform Andolan was established in mid-2026 to address caste-based reservation issue and make reservation poverty-based, following the success of satirical youth movement Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in the 2026 Delhi Jantar Mantar protests.[2]
Jantar Mantar protests
On 21 August 2026, a massive crowd of protestors descended on the roads around Jantar Mantar in the national capital of New Delhi.[3][4] The demonstration of the protests at the Jantar Mantar site in New Delhi was erupted by the call of the Instagram page "Reservation Hatao Andolan".[5] The instagram page shared a poster announcing a "peaceful protest" on 21 August at 2 pm at the Jantar Mantar.[6] Many of the protestors were mobilised by different organisations like Karni Sena and Ranvir Sena, etc. The protestors are seeking overhaul of the current reservation system in the country.[7] They carried placards raising slogans like "Aarakshan gareeb ko mile, jaati ko nahi" that translates to "reservation should go to the poor, not castes", etc.[8] Similarly, members of Reservation Reform Alliance staged a sit in demonstration called Reservation Reform Satyagraha at the Jantar Mantar, against the caste-based reservation in the country.[9]
During the protests, thousands of protesters gathered at the Jantar Mantar under the banner of Reservation Hatao Andolan (RHA). According to the official of the Delhi Police, no permission was granted for the demonstration of the protests at the site of the Jantar Mantar.[7] The official clarified that prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS was already in force in the district of New Delhi. A large number of police personnel and Rapid Action Force were deployed at the site of the Jantar Mantar. Similarly, to ensure the maintenance of law and order during the protestors gathering, several barricades were installed at the site as a precautionary measure.[5] The protestors alleged that internet jammers were installed in the area of the Jantar Mantar.[4]
The major demands raised by the protestors were an overhaul of the reservation system, quota in public education and employment solely be based on an income criteria rather than on socio-economic categories, “one family, one reservation”, roll back the UGC’s 2026 caste-equity rules and also a review of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act[4]. According to the protestors of the Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Mahasabha, while deciding who needs government support, the economic conditions should be considered. They raised demand that a poor person be identified irrespective of caste and should be provided assistance for education, coaching and other needs.[10] During the protests at the Jantar Mantar, a clash was also observed between the protestors and police personnel.[7] Over 50 protestors[8] were detained by the Delhi Police over the lack of permission for the protests at the Jantar Mantar.[4]
Core Demands
The movement officially declared 5 points demands by their social media platform On Instagram.[10][1]These five points demands are
- Poverty-based Reservation (regardless of caste by birth)
- "One-Family get One Reservation for One time" (to avoid same family getting repeated benefits keeping other needy deprived)
- Minimum standards for everyone (Every exam must have minimum qualifying marks, ideally 10-20% less than cutoff, if seats remains vacant than make it unreserved)
- Stop reservation politics (Respect 50% reservation cap given by Supreme Court and ban cap breaking policies of political parties)
- Sunset Clause (Government should slowly phase-out reservation as society develops)
Connaught Place protests
On 23 August 2026, around 300 protestors gathered at the Connaught Place in Delhi demanding to change the reservation system in the country. After that over 20 protestors were detained by Delhi Police, since the protests was taking place without permission.[11]
