The song was written by Perry, alongside Gino Baletta, Hayley Warner, alongside the song's producers, Zedd and Dreamlab. The song was recorded at Westlake Recording Studios and Unsub Studios, based in Los Angeles, and Studios 301, based in Sydney. It is an electropop track inspired by Norwegian singer Dagny's "Love You Like That" (2017), and thus, the writers of "Love You Like That" are also credited as writers.
