Danielle Fabiola "Inde" Navarrette (/ˈɪndi ˌnævəˈrɛti/ IN-dee NAV-ə-RET-ee;[1] born March 3, 2001) is an American actress and former online streamer.[2] She began her acting career as a teenager with roles in short films, before landing roles in the Netflix drama series 13 Reasons Why (2020) and The CW's superhero drama series Superman & Lois (2021–2024). Her breakthrough came as Nikki Freeman in the supernatural horror film Obsession (2025), which earned her critical acclaim. She was then cast as Rogue in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).[3]
Early life
Danielle Fabiola Navarrette[4] was born on March 3, 2001, in Tucson, Arizona. Her father is Mexican and served in the United States Marine Corps while her mother, Tossi Fox, is Australian and a hairstylist.[5][6] Since her father served in the U.S. military, her family relocated frequently. By age fifteen, she had attended eleven schools. After her parents separated, Navarrette was raised primarily in Visalia, California. She briefly attended Mt. Whitney High School in Visalia before relocating to the Los Angeles area and enrolling at Redondo Union High School.[7]
She credits both sides of her family for sparking her interest in acting. Her maternal family regularly watched the Academy Awards, and her paternal Mexican family introduced her to horror films at a young age.[4]
Her mother gave her the nickname "Inde" because of her independent nature as a child.[8]
Career
Early work (2019–2025)
Navarrette's first role came in the Snapchat original sitcom Denton's Death Date (2019), where she starred as Veronica.[9] In 2020, Navarrette was cast in season four of the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why as Estela de la Cruz.[10] In 2021, Navarette signed with Creative Artists Agency (CAA),[9] and landed her first notable starring role later that year as Sarah Cortez in Superman & Lois (2021).[11][12] In June 2023, it was announced that Navarrette and six of her co-stars were departing the show for the fourth and final season due to budget cuts.[13] Navarrette returned to make a few minor appearances in season four.[14] In 2025, Navarrette played Teresa Flores in the action film Trap House.[15]
Breakthrough (2026–present)
Navarrette starred as Nikki Freeman in the horror film Obsession,[16][17][18] which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5, 2025[19] before a United States theatrical release on May 15, 2026. Her performance received critical acclaim, with critics highlighting both her emotional vulnerability and physical intensity.[17][20][21] Louis Peitzman of Vulture called it a stand-out performance for Navarrette, especially as her first major role in the horror genre.[22] Katie Rife of RogerEbert.com said her emotional scenes revealed the humanity behind Nikki's violent behaviour and made the character more tragic.[23] Guy Lodge of Variety praised Navarrette for "acing one of the more physically and emotionally taxing horror leads to come down the pike in a while",[24] and his colleague Clayton Davis named her as a candidate for the Academy Award for Best Actress.[25] Bill Bria of /Film compared Nikki's impact to performances in classic horror films such as The Exorcist (1973) and Carrie (1976).[26] Following the film's success, Navarrette said she appreciated the story remaining a standalone film, while expressing interest in continuing to work in the horror genre.[27]
Before Obsession debuted in cinemas, Navarrette was set to star in the horror film Invertigo.[28] In August 2026, after meeting with director Jake Schreier and expressing interest in portraying Mystique,[29] it was announced that Navarrette was cast as Rogue in an untitled X-Men reboot, which has a planned 2028 release.[30]
Personal life
Navarrette is bisexual.[10][31] She has four siblings: an older brother, two younger brothers, and a younger sister. Navarrette is a video game enthusiast, having formerly live-streamed games such as Call of Duty on Twitch and YouTube under the username "Inde_navarrette".[2][32]
