The Diplostraca, including the water fleas and clam shrimp, is a superorder of small, mostly freshwater crustaceans, most of which feed on microscopic chunks of organic matter, though some forms are predatory. Traditionally, this superorder was divided into Conchostraca and Cladocera, but Conchostraca were found to be paraphyletic with respect to Cladocera.
