The appendicular skeleton is the portion of the vertebrate endoskeleton consisting of the bones, cartilages and ligaments that support the paired appendages. In most terrestrial vertebrates, the appendicular skeleton and the associated skeletal muscles are the predominant weight-bearing and locomotive structures.
