The 2008 Gërdec explosions were a series of catastrophic explosions that occurred on 15 March 2008 at an ammunition-decommissioning facility in the village of Gërdec, near Vorë, about 14 km (8.7 mi) west of Tirana, Albania. The explosions killed 26 people, injured at least 264 others, and damaged about 5,500 houses. Other international and Albanian sources reported more than 300 injured and thousands of residents evacuated.
