The 25th edition of the World Series, it was a best-of-seven playoff that matched the American League (AL) champion New York Yankees versus the National League (NL) champion St. Louis Cardinals. The Yankees beat the Cardinals in four games to win their third championship and become the first team to do back-to-back sweeps.
