"Wizard of Odd" is the 26th episode of the second season of the animated television series Phineas and Ferb, the 56th broadcast episode segment in the season and the 52nd episode overall. It was originally broadcast on Disney Channel and later Disney XD on September 24, 2010. In this episode, a parody of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Candace Flynn tries to find her way home by traveling to the Wizard in "Bustopolis" before she’s pursued by Doofenwarlock.

Plot

Candace is bored due to having nothing to do, her Mother gives her a book to keep her occupied, the book being an edition of “The Wizard of Oz “. Candace’s mother beckons her to have fun. Candace takes offense in that she has fun a lot, calling herself “the Queen of Fun”. Candace seems uninterested in the book until Phineas and Ferb start to wash the house by spinning it around rapidly as they spray it. Candace passes out from dizziness while reading The Wizard of Oz and wakes up along with Perry the Platypus in the house in an Oz-like dream world, the house crushing Suzy (in this role, The Wicked Witch of the East) and her red boots. Candace is greeted by the "Patchkins" (Fireside Girls). The Good Witch (Isabella) battles against Doofenwarlock (Doofenshmirtz) who seeks revenge upon Candace and Perry for squishing Suzy with the house. Phineas and Ferb pull down the background and tell Candace to "have fun". The Good Witch directs Candace to the Wizard in "Bustopolis" to find her way home and bust her brothers telling her to unwaveringly follow the yellow sidewalk before she floats away. Along the way, Candace and Perry encounter, a "nerd-crow" (Baljeet) who wishes to be cool (I Want To Be Cool)[a]; a tree (Jeremy), who wishes to be a "real boy" (Tree-Related Wish)[a]; and a lion–tiger–bear hybrid (Buford), who wishes for nothing. As the group travels to Bustopolis, Phineas and Ferb offer alternate fun paths to get there such as; A unicorn ride through a candy forest, a non-dairy ice cream sidewalk which can be used for licking and skating; and finally, a blue bouncy sidewalk as a direct way to Bustopolis. Candace refuses to leave the yellow sidewalk still showing her non fun attitude and disposition from the beginning of the episode.Seeing Candace still get away with the boots, Doofenwarlock sends a flying squadron of Flying Squirrels to capture Candace. (A callback to her fear of squirrels and the song S.I.M.P (Squirrels in my Pants) in the Season 1 episode,“Comet Kermillian”.)

Doofenwarlock captures Candace and Perry so he can take the Red Rubber Boots off of her. The group distracts Doofenwarlock by pretending to give him a free makeover courtesy of Witch’s Brew Magazine. Doofenwarlock falls for the trap until it becomes obvious that it’s all a distraction. Meanwhile, Perry easily gets out of his trap, and Candace and her friends escape after shrinking Doofenwarlock’s 100% Cotton Robe making him go get a pink tracksuit, While the guards are freed and have a song and dance up their sleeves. The group arrives in Bustopolis, where the Wizard (Linda), Phineas and Ferb give Baljeet "cool" sunglasses, Buford a ham sandwich, and Jeremy the realization that he was merely wearing a tree costume. Candace thinks she is about to get a gift until Doofenwarlock gets the boots while Candace is grateful she doesn’t have to wear them anymore. Doofenwarlock begins a Broadway-style song happy to finally have the red rubber boots (Red Rubber Boots)[a] and is then promptly squished by Dorothy and Toto’s house. Candace is given the gift that she had fun along the journey.

Candace confronts the wizard, slightly mad that she said she had “fun” on her adventure. Candace says that she listen to the Good Witch and followed the yellow sidewalk. The Wizard tells Candace that The Good Witch tells everyone to go on the yellow sidewalk. Candace realizes she should’ve been having fun on her adventure. She starts screaming “No!” as she starts to wake up. Candace wakes up on her bed after her dream ended and is beckoned by Phineas and Ferb to join them; having learned her lesson, she accepts. Phineas and Ferb once again pull down the screen and say to "have fun".

During the credits, Candace sings a parody of “Busted” to the rusted Tin Woodman that she ignored along her way towards Bustopolis (Rusted)[a]

Production

This episode was produced in 2009. In 2011, background painter Jill Daniels and background designer Brian Woods both won Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation for their contributions to this episode.^[2] In Italy, this episode was titled "Divertiti Candace", Germany titled "Der Zauberer von Spotz", and Poland titled "Czarnoksiężnik" which all aired this episode before the United States. This episode has some of the most songs of any episode and is the second where all are sung by a character onscreen following "Dude, We're Getting the Band Back Together".
