Wikipedia:WikiProject Endangered languages as taskforce?
I propose merging the inactive Wikipedia:WikiProject Endangered languages into this project as a taskforce. It makes sense to have a division dedicated entirely to endangered languages as they are consistently undercovered as part of systemic bias. 🪐Kepler-1229b | talk | contribs🪐 04:58, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
- ditto with Wikipedia:WikiProject Indigenous languages of California 🪐Kepler-1229b | talk | contribs🪐 06:26, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
- Strong support to both. They are quite well suited topics to become task forces here. ~ oklopfer (💬) 15:06, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
- Support to both. I wonder if we might broaden the latter into just an Indigenous languages task force. ThaesOfereode (talk) 10:19, 10 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Oklopfer @ThaesOfereode I have now moved Endangered languages as a taskforce. I think more discussion is warranted on the Indigenous Californian wikiproject to determine its fate. 🪐Kepler-1229b | talk | contribs🪐 04:00, 27 July 2026 (UTC)

Glossary of sound laws in the Indo-European languages at WP:FLC
Hello all! I have been working on Glossary of sound laws in the Indo-European languages for nearly two and a half years now and finally submitted this massive project to Featured List Candidacy. I would appreciate any and all comments from interested editors at its nomination page. Hope to see some of you drop by! ThaesOfereode (talk) 00:45, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

Article categorization based on language families?
Hi. I noticed, thanks to yesterday's catfishing, that there's some inconsistency with how articles for languages are categorized. For instance:
- Spanish language is under Category:West Iberian languages;
- Portuguese language is under Category:Galician-Portuguese (sub-category of West Iberian);
- English language is under both Category:Germanic languages and Category:Anglic languages (sub-sub-sub-category of Germanic).
Is there a convention here? I couldn't find anything on this talk page. Thanks!

Singlish's creole status
Singlish may either be a creole, or an indigenised variety of English (see world Englishes). The academic consensus is unclear: it linguistically resembles a creole, but did not develop from a pidgin. The only thing it can be definitively labelled as is a "contact language based on English".
In many well-established news sources, it is classified as a creole: 1 2 3 4 5 However, I'm not for the idea that these should be considered reliable, as they are writers that can only establish a common name, but creole is inherently a linguistics jargonistic term, so I'm inclined to only qualify linguists as reliable sources of information.
Glottolog does not classify Singlish under the creoles section. I've boldly removed Singlish as being a creole from Wikipedia, which lead to some implications like re-classification of Singlish in templates like 1 and 2 to becoming classified as "just another English variety". Ancient Cappadocian language: FA review
The article on the Ancient Cappadocian language is currently a Featured Article candidate and is under review. Comments by members of this Wikiproject would, naturally, be helpful in assessing its compliance with the FA criteria, including our basic policies such as WP:NOR, and WP:Notability. - @Generalissima, Wugapodes, Phlsph7, A. Parrot, A455bcd9, PharyngealImplosive7, ThaesOfereode, Theleekycauldron, Airborne84, and ThaesOfereode: you've all done linguistics FAs: perhaps one of you would be willing to take a look at this? The issue is interpretation and evaluation of certain academic sources, which really needs a SME to offer an opinion. RoySmith (talk) 13:36, 21 August 2026 (UTC)
