Copyright issue?
If you are coming to open a discussion with me because I reverted an edit of yours as a copyright issue, please make sure your post includes a link to the article in question - not just the name of the article, a link. Then read the following:
I typically use an edit summary with "copyright issue re URL", or "cv URL". The URL identifies source material that matches your edit too closely.
Copy Within Wikipedia If you added material to an article which came from an existing article in Wikipedia, it is highly likely that this will be flagged as a potential copyright violation in our CopyPatrol software.
If you followed the best practices at Wikipedia:Copying_within_Wikipedia, you left an edit summary indicating the source, I will mark it as acceptable, and you are probably not reading this message. On the other hand, if you did not identify what you did in an edit summary, then I probably reverted the edit. However, the indicated source URL will not be the Wikipedia article, it will be be some site that copied from Wikipedia. (As a technical point, this is not a false positive because failing to follow best practices means that the attribution requirements have not been followed.) If the edit has been revision deleted, let me know so I can reverse it and you can provide the proper attribution. If it was not revision deleted but simply reverted, feel free to undo my revert, explaining carefully in the edit summary why you are doing so and add the proper attribution.
Other issues There are other reasons why your edit may have been reverted in error. I do a lot of reviews of flagged issues. In 1 to 2% of the cases, I do make a mistake and I'm happy to rectify it. Some sources of errors:
- Source page which has a full copyright notice at the bottom of the page but material within the page is properly licensed. Sometimes that license is buried in the page and sometimes on a separate page.
- Source material that is public domain but not clearly identified as such.
- Source material that is properly licensed but I somehow failed to notice the license

Copyright violations on Chartered Institutes for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity
Thank you for flagging the copyright violation. I agree with the removal. However, there was other content that was removed that did not come from the website you flagged. This included infobox additions, a new section, and other text in the introduction not related to the vision/mission paragraphs.
I have reintroduced these elements onto the page. I will leave mission/vision absent.

- The arbitration case SchroCat has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 15 April.
- Per a recent motion, appeals of blocks from the conflict-of-interest VRT queue are, by default, appealed on-wiki through the normal unblock process. However, they may be heard by the Committee if COIVRTers disagree on the interpretation of the evidence or believe ArbCom would be better suited to hear the appeal. Administrators are also advised that loosening or lifting such blocks without the consent of someone with access to the queue or ArbCom can be grounds for desysopping.
- Per a recent motion, restrictions issued directly by the Committee may now be enforced with blocks which work exactly like contentious topic blocks.
- The arbitration case Maghreb has been closed.
Miscellaneous
- The May 2026 administrator elections are scheduled to run from April 29 to May 19. The call for candidates ends May 5.

Draft South Africa National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy 2026
@Sphilbrick:, thanks for the patrol and copyright notice left on the above page revision history. I accept that my summary of the “Core Pillars” section of the draft policy is very close to the page cited. This does not surprise me as the policy itself is in public domain and the law firm summarized the core policies themselves. I am actually surprised that they can claim copy right on this. But I am willing to work on that section. Would it be ok to put back the rest of the sections? For example the Reaction and Critique sections do not appear in the url page cited when reverting. - Unfortunately, I run into many situations where someone uses some public domain texts and then slaps a copyright notice on the bottom of the page.
- One option is to put the core pillars information in a block quote, so we don't even have to deal with the whether it's subject to copyright or not as long as it's not too long.
- Yes feel free to restore anything else that wasn't part of the identify problematic material. It would be nice if we could use a scalpel but with only a handful of volunteers dealing with hundreds of reports we have to resort to a bit of a meat ax at times. @Sphilbrick I noticed that you've rev del'd the 1st version of the page but you labelled it as an RD1, which is for blatant violations. I explained that the text was copied and the edit summary contains an attribution. That the text came from that page is also evident in the typo "Graduatiing" that appears on both pages.
The Copying within Wikipedia says:
If a Wikipedia article (the "parent article") contains text that is a breach of third-party copyright and is copied to another article (the "child article"), then the child article will also contain a copyright violation. Attributing the copy in the child article as specified below helps editors identify when an inadvertent breach of copyright occurred and determine that the editor who made the copy did so without knowing that it was a breach of copyright. (See here for an example.) The appropriate attribution in the child article may also help editors trace the copyright violation back to the parent article.
I don't think an inadvertent breach is the same as a blatant breach. (Also, is the copyvio going to remain on the parent page?) Mme Maigret (talk) 15:34, 2 June 2026 (UTC)
- Please don't overreact to the use of the word "blatant". I've done tens of thousands of revision deletions to remove copyright violations from visibility, and I always use the shorthand RD1 to identify the rationale and I had to look it up toSee that it has "blatant" in the description. I wasn't around when that terminology was written — had I been I would've objected to the word latent because we don't generally make any distinction between copyright violations that are blatant versus inadvertent.
- I understand you said the problematic text existed in an earlier version of the page. I take that to mean that you want the editor were originally added it so it shouldn't be attributed to you as a problem but I guarantee that that's not the way anyone views RD1 reversions.
- I don't know what you mean you when you make mention of the parent page. I'm aware that you said the page you started was copied or created from another page but I've never seen that one. I also don't recognize the term "parent page" in this context. My revision deletion only affects Draft:Theophilus McKinney. - We get a number of false positives in Copy Patrol. Those can arise for a variety of reasons, but one of the most common instances occur when there is a full-blown edit war going on, which often manifests in a lot of revision reversions. In those cases, the reversions often trigger a copy patrol report because almost by definition, the reversion is reintroducing text that was in the article shortly before. The copy patrol algorithm doesn't great job in many cases but not surprisingly, when it finds text that matches an earlier version of the Wikipedia article, it doesn't attempt to figure out whether this is a brand-new insertion or simply a reversion to a prior version. When I see an edit war in progress, there are multiple issues to address but most of those issues are not copyright related so I like to leave the sorting out of the editorial issues to others. Many reversions to a prior revision are rollbacks. This one seems little different and to be honest I've looked at it and I'm not quite sure I fully understand the sequence of events. Possible a reversion is reintroducing material that should have been identified and revision deleted earlier — if that happened it wouldn't be possible for someone to revert to that revision. That's also something that can happen in an edit war where people are fighting over editorial issues but not spending the time to identify revisions that should be revision deleted.

Hi there, I'm not sure if you saw my response to your message on my talk page from 18 June regarding the Luke McKenzie article? I was just wondering if you could give me further context on why all my edits were removed? You mentioned that you sometimes get things wrong and I'm wondering if that was what happened in this case. You seemed to indicate there was a copyright violation somewhere within my edits. If I did not alter the original written form sufficiently enough, I apologise in advance, although I generally take great care to do so. What I'm particularly confused about though, is why it wasn't just one of my edits that was reverted but ALL of them? Particularly because some were in regards to tabulated credits, which were purely listings rather than prose, so I'm puzzled how this can qualify as a copyright violation? I have tried reverting your revertion but it's not allowing me to do so. Hi there, thank you for taking the time to explain the reasoning/process behind your revertion of all my edits. I hadn't yet gone back and attempted to re-edit any of it again, just in case it was reverted once more, because I wasn't clear which of my edits was the issue. Unfortunately, I'm still a bit confused, because the links you provided just re-linked me back to either the Luke McKenzie page or the article I cited, rather than the specifics. Not saying this is your fault, as you seem to be very thorough - it may be a Wikipedia glitch? Wikipedia also seems to have archived that particular chain of edit history, so perhaps this is why I'm unable to see specifics?
As a writer, I do take great care to reword as much as possible, which is why I was keen to see the exact edit that was deemed problematic for comparison, so I can gauge how much/little is considered sufficient by Wikipedia standards in terms of alteration. Just so that I can follow the correct process as closely as possible.
You mentioned you were puzzled that I've performed so many edits, yet I didn't know how the reply process works. The simple answer is that it was never explained to me, nor did it appear to be obvious - especially given that there is a reply button at the bottom of every user's post on my talk page - presumably to be used in some fashion? Responding in different places so that there is no chain/flow of conversation to follow does seem very convoluted and clunky. And having a reply button that is not to be used, seems superfluous and indicative of a user interface flaw on Wikipedia's part. I will do a deep dive to glean the answer to this anomaly, but in the meantime I thought I'd just explain my reasonable assumption that I was to use the reply function that I did.

- I believe you. This is a common observation. Whenever material is added to a Wikipedia page that isn't original, in other words copied from some other location, It's highly likely that those words will existing more than one place. Our tool identifies one such source, but it could be another source.
Your bad ai is just finding copyright material and trying to find a match
- I didn't write the tools that searches for copyright issues but it's been around for quite a few years and leans heavily on software that has been around for many years, maybe decades, so while AI might be a good option I don't think it applies in this case.

- Perhaps it isn't. What is your basis for asserting it's not protected by copyright? Some people are under the impression that if they don't see a © then it's not protected by copyright but that's not the law. In most cases if it's not protected, then there is an explicit license clarifying the status which I don't see in this case. There are other situations such as works by the US federal government which are automatically in the public domain and others which are old enough to be in the public domain but that doesn't seem to be applicable here.

- Most importantly, that's not true. I do delete quite a few articles when there are copyright issues, but when it is not quite so clear-cut, I make a recommendation and let someone else make the call on the belief that having more than one person look at it is the best course of action. - I've never heard of the movie Anwar, but that's not relevant to this particular issue. Wikipedia has a tool which identifies situations where an editor adds text that can be found in other sources. This sometimes means the text you are adding is not written in your own words but copied from another source which might be subject to copyright. Those reports are reviewed by editors such as myself. It appeared to me that you copied material from https://mumbaimirror.indiatimes.com/entertainment/bollywood/double-trouble/articleshow/15657603.html. You included a reference to that article so it appears you are aware of it. I do note that you did provide a reference but you are supposed to be writing in your own words with rare exceptions such as the usage of short quotations.
