The term multiracial people refers to people who are of two or more races, while the term multi-ethnic people refers to people who are of more than one ethnicity. A variety of terms are or have been used for multiracial or multi-ethnic people in a variety of contexts, including multiethnic, polyethnic, bi-ethnic (occasion), biracial, mixed-race, and more specific terms. A number of older terms are now considered slurs, such as “half-breed” and “half-caste”, in addition to those that were initially coined for pejorative use.
